What is an astragal and why do I need one on a pair of doors?
Answer:
An astragal is that piece of metal or wood that you see in between a pair of doors. It is typically mounted to the inactive door of a pair of doors, and will often include the preps for flush bolts and strike. In addition to providing the hardware preps, it also covers the clearance gap between the two doors. Astragals can be provided in both 1-piece and 2-piece versions.
