How do I know if a door is Fire Rated?
Answer:
It is very important to know if you have a fire rated door before installing any replacement hardware. If the hardware you are installing is not fire rated hardware, the door and opening loses the rating! The door will have either a cUL or UL (Underwriters Laboratories) or WH (Warnock Hersey) label affixed to it. Finding the label can be difficult at times. It can most often be found on the hinge side edge of the door. However, sometimes it can be found on the top and even the bottom of the door. Additionally, you will find some labels have been painted over and are difficult to see. The bottom line though is you need to know what type of door you are modifying before you replace any hardware!
